Being a Patriot on Veterans Day
They're All Our Kids
This will be short and sweet.
As we celebrate our veterans today, I hope that we never forget the sacrifices of those families which have kept us free.
I am the daughter of a vet, the mother of a vet - who found himself outside of Afghanistan after 9/11 – the cousin and niece of vets. My ex-husband is a Vietnam vet. You can say that green flows through my veins. My parents split when I was very young, so I wasn’t an “Army brat” so to speak, but that doesn’t really matter. I know that my family on all sides have stood up for this country. And not one was drafted into the service – all enlisted.
My oldest son was very involved in ROTC in high school, but because of chronic asthma, was unable to fulfill his dream of becoming an Air Force pilot. He was bitterly disappointed, and still carries it with him to this day.
There’s a part of me that’s glad that it’s too cold for a barbeque and that this holiday isn’t automatically on a weekend. Let’s spend a silent moment thanking those whose spirits still watch over us, thanking those in our families who are currently serving, and praying for the future of this country.
Fort Hood is still very vivid in our minds. The MSM news will have us believe that Major Hasan got PreTSD by osmosis. Worst of all, we have a president who’s apparently physically unable to say the word “terrorist.”
God help us all.
